I would say I have eclectic taste when it comes to music — that is not some brag but an attempt to get you to read on and importantly, to listen, when you may be out of your musical comfort zone.

Alternative music is what I personally listen to the most, and you can’t really even just call it alternative rock at this point. I think ‘Alternative’ is probably the broadest spectrum in music at this time. But hey, that’s just like, my opinion man.

Dan Deacon definitely tracks towards the non-rock side of things. I would classify his music as strong tempos with songs that can build rapidly in their pacing. Songs with a core of components, piano, synth, and thoughtful vocals. I don’t know about you, but a large majority of the time I’m using the music I listen to as a performance enhancer to my work without the terrible side effects that many PE’s contain (I can’t afford those). Music such as Dan’s allows me to step out of my head if that makes sense and focus only on what’s directly in front of me (for example listening to his tracks as I write this). That gives me a lot of enjoyment and value, even if it’s slightly a weird or taboo topic to think about the value a song can give you personally.

Anyway, I hope you embrace your weird and give it a shot, it won’t bite.
