Oddball: Week 5 NFL Bets

Kirk and Matt get $100 each per week and go head-to-head to see who can light the most money on fire betting the NFL this season.
where's my lighter?

Welcome back to Oddball! Our weekly NFL gambling competition. The rules are simple:

  • We each get $100 to make NFL bets every week.

  • We must bet the entire $100.

  • We'll post our picks every Thursday and recap how we did every Tuesday.

  • We can only bet on stuff that will be resolved during the week (no futures).

  • Loser must eat an entire well-done steak at Applebee's.

Any profit you make in a given week can be banked and used later. Any portion of the $100 that you don't lose, cannot be used later but does count towards your overall total for the season.

Wow, that preamble was more verbose than Swiftie Nation was on Sunday. Let's get to this week's picks...

Matt's Picks

$170 available to bet this week $70.00 last week $357.17 in the bank

I'm still riding high after last week's nearly-perfect handicapping performance. Not even the Giants completely coming apart at the seams could spoil my mood. So let's ride with this momentum and jump right into the picks.

Falcons (-126)

Moneyline

I've been all over the Texans to start the year and have been impressed with Stroud. But now that the public is catching on, let's go the other way. The Texans haven't been able to stop the run very well and that's the Falcons entire offense. This is a tough spot for Stroud on the road, getting smoke blown up his butt all week. But I hate laying 1.5 points in what should be a close game. I'll pay the extra juice and just grab the money line here.

💰 $63 to win $50

6-point Teaser (-130)

Rams +10.5 Steelers +10.5

The Rams are undefeated against the spread so far this season, which makes me a bit nervous. But the Eagles have a knack for playing just well enough to win. Let's give ourselves some breathing room and cross a bunch of key numbers to take the Rams to +10.5. And then let's grab the left-for-dead Steelers as a home divisional dog against the banged-up Ravens. When these two teams play, it's almost always a field goal game. Let's hope this one stays closer than double-digits. (I know I said no more teasers. But shh...)

💰 $65 to win $50

Colts +2.5

Straight up ATS (-110)

Another home divisional dog. Give me those points. The Colts are scrappy as we saw from their big comeback against the Rams last week. They are well-coached and Richardson is pretty exciting to watch. I'm not optimistic about either of these teams, but since they are pretty even, I like getting the home team as a dog. Just a little taste on this one.

💰 $22 to win $20

Moneyline Parlay (+114)

49ers
Dolphins
Lions

This is my way of getting the 49ers money line at a bit better of a price. I'll throw them in with the Dolphins and Lions who are sure to stomp their lowly opponents. And if I jinx the Dolphins by making this bet, so be it!

💰 $20 to win $22.83

Kirk's Picks

$100.00 available to bet this week -$85.67 last week $389.41 in the bank

First up on the ol' docket the Thursday Night Special. This weeks special: Who are these guys, what do I do:

Same Game Parlay (+2204)

Washington Commanders -6, Over 44.5, Brian Robinson Any Time TD, Terry McLaurin Over 4.5 Receptions, DJ Moore under 55.5, Sam Howell Over 1.5 Passing TD's

Outside of the QB's, I do not really know anything about the personnel for either team. I know the Commanders almost beat the Eagles, and their offense didn't look terrible.

What I do know, is that the Bears suck and they're one of the bright spots for me gambling wise this season. I'm avoiding any specific Justin Fields bets as I have no idea what their offense will do and if they'll play him as a designed runner more prevalently than last week. Also with Chase Young healthy I'll be curious to see his impact against the Bears offense.

💰 $10 to win $220.40.

Bills -5.5

Straight Up ATS (-110)

Matt and his smug face were quite pleased about the Bills beatdown they handed out last week. Staring at a spread less than 6 against a suspect Jags team, even in London

I think the Bills smack the Jags right in the mouth. Seems like blasphemy but.....is Doug Pederson a bad coach!?!

💰 $80.00 to win $72.73

3 Game Parlay ATS (+581)

Dolphins -12, Ravens -4.5, Patriots +1

Trying to catch up to Matt with a more manageable parlay, I can't dick around anymore. His boring turtle wins the race crap may actually work out. I'M NOT HAVING IT.

The Giants have proven they suck - probably worse than the Bears which is shocking. I think in a humid Miami game they get drop kicked by a Dolphins team looking for someone to beat up on after the Bills showed them up.

Ravens are good, Steelers are bad, somehow a worse offense to watch than the Giants without Barkley.

I think at home the Patriots come back from Belichick worst ever beat down. NO hasn't proven anything and as much as I hate to, I think Belichick schemes up a comeback.

💰 $10.00 to win $58.14
